MAKULUAK / THE CRUTCHES
(based on a poem by Bertolt Brecht)
For seven years I could not walk a step
When I went to the great doctor,
He asked: “Why are you wearing crotches?”
And I said: “Because I´m crippled”.
“It´s not surprising”, he said.
“Try walking. It´s the crutches
What doesn´t let you walk.
Come on, be brave, crawl”
Laughing like a monster,
He took my crutches,
Broke them behind my back and, still laughing,
Now I´m cured. I walk.
I was cured by a laughter.
Only sometimes, when I see sticks,
I walk worse for a few hours.
Now I walk.
